Custom Tailored Software
Customized is great right? But is it the same as being tailored? No it’s not. Some companies looking for software have a hard time grasping exactly what manufacturing software can do for them. They look at the price tag and not at what they are actually going to be receiving. Here is the best examples I can come up with.
Advancements in artificial intelligence have enabled manufacturing organizations to leverage the power of these intelligent scheduling software systems which can take into account numerous constraints.
Production Scheduling Software help manufacturers create the most optimal schedules, while meeting a number of important priorities.
Say you go to a fine dining restaurant and order a steak. You want that steak to be cooked medium well with a touch of pepper on the top and a side of asparagus. For $30.00 that steak will come out just as you ordered it. Then you travel down the road to a fast food restaurant that now offers “steak.” You may ask for it to be medium well but they’re going to give you the same thing everyone else is asking for maybe slightly darker. Hence it’s not tailored for your needs. Does that make sense?
Tailored software is a bit more expensive than a canned software system but you need to compare apples to apples if I might sound a bit cliché. Some companies say they will “tailor” your system for you for only $6,000.00 when in reality you are receiving a system just like everyone else. Then when you need screens changed around or data changed they slap you with extra fees and before you know it you’re paying a whole lot more for a system you thought you were getting a bang for your buck with.
When purchasing any software system make sure to ask if they charge extra for changes and upgrades. Find out if they will allow you to test the software before hand to make sure there aren’t a whole lot of useless screens hanging around that you aren’t going to use. And finally make sure they’re a reputable company. Ask for references and see what their policy is if you don’t like the software. Some companies will let you walk away if you aren’t completely satisfied.
