Why Have Reporting?
Production reporting systems offer a number of agile solutions for today’s manufacturing environments. With the amount of required and voluntary reporting a manufacturer needs to take care of, it’s important to have a software system that can change with the needs of a manufacturer.

For example, an interior components manufacturing group might make countertops for residential systems. Once a countertop is designed and is ready to be created and installed, first knowing how much material is needed is paramount. Once the material is acquired, the cuts are made for the countertop itself. There are the piece(s) to be installed, which need to be managed in further processes. There are also remnants, which are pieces which can be returned to stock and used in future projects. And there is waste, which are smaller pieces which cannot be used later. The line between remnant and waste is a fine line, as a piece one worker might see as waste another might see as something that can be used as, say, a backsplash.
All of these numbers need to be reported in order for the accounting to be correct. For example, viewing the installation square footage against the waste square footage can indicate workers and processes where efficiency can be increased, possibly rendering greater square footage in remnant material.
Production reporting systems are important in any attempt to assist a process or company in running more smoothly with less cost, less waste, and greater throughput of the manufacturing process.
